Farm Apprenticeships and Internships
Presently, we are participating in several work exchange programs including wwooferusa.org . This is an experiential opportunity without formal training or classes. In exchange for room and board, we expect 25 hours of farm labor.
The accommodations are pretty sweet in a separate 600 Sq Ft barn renovated with bathroom, shower (Yay for hot water!) heat/air, deck; space for only 2 wwoofers at a time; no pets and no children as we are not sure our dog would get along. Wi-fi and cable TV. Wash must be taken to laundromat. We will expect that the barn and surrounding area be kept clean and neat, and be left clean upon your departure with beds stripped. Whole foods, meat, veggies out of the garden in season provided for meals with self accommodating kitchenette area, microwave, toaster oven, grill and fridge. We cannot accommodate those with special diets (vegetarian okay-vegan not okay) or food allergies. We provide basic cooking ingredients, so it is important that you know how to prepare meals from scratch. English only spoken unfortunately. Single women will only be scheduled to bunk with other women.
We need help with planting, harvesting, and preserving; restoration of a historical barn, painting; mowing, weeding, shoring up weeds along fence lines; baking and whatever else may present itself on a day to day basis as part of our cottage farm industry. We may even throw in some soap making and barn quilt painting. We are looking for self motivated and self managed individuals with a strong work ethic; this is hard physical work and you need to be physically fit. You will be instructed on what to do, but then left to work on your own. It is required that you are punctual for the work day to receive instruction. Those with carpentry skills, previous organic farming experience would be preferred but these skills are not required. We expect a 25 hour work week, and we have to work the schedule around good weather. There are opportunities for earning some spending money for those with computer skills or who are willing to clean house for hosts.
Stays are typically limited to 2 weeks. A car, references, application, and photo ID are required for a stay at our farm. Please email us if you have interest.
