The Swan Creek valley, home to a growing population of vineyards, can now add a Chinese Herb farm to their community. Master Herbalist Catherine Browne, L.Ac., M.H., Dipl.Ac., has been a professional herbalist for over 25 years and owned an organic herb farm for 16 years in the 80's and 90's. The websites for Ageless Herbs specializing in progressive Chinese healing tonics for longevity and vitality has been shipping herbal formulas to customers for several years and will now feature herbs grown in the foothills of North Carolina.  The Swan Creek Farm website features custom made acupressure kits, meditation candles and CD's, healing tub teas, essential oil blends, and healing flower essence blends.

"It is gratifying restoring a patient's health and teaching them how to stay well on their own", Catherine explains, "My patients needed access to safe tonic-herb tablets they can use on a daily basis to maintain good health. Unfortunately, most of the supplements available on the market are intended for a specific illness to be used for a short duration, so I  developed my own line of herbal tonics." These Ageless Herbs tonics, like Return to Spring— for hair restoration, Sea of Qi—for stimulant-free energy, and Blood Mansion—for heart health, repair the body on a cellular level balancing the organ systems and reversing the aging process.

Americans have been missing out on one of the most potent tools used to decelerate the effects of aging, Chinese tonic herbs. Long known and revered in Eastern cultures, tonic herbs reverse the damage done to organs over the years, thus turning back the clock. Often people associate the word "tonic" with a nasty tasting liquid. Rather, tonic refers to the specific type of herbs used in these tablets; they are restorative and can be taken over a long period of time safely. Catherine has developed this unique line of herbal supplements geared towards a reluctantly aging population of baby boomers.

Catherine, a boomer herself, is uniquely qualified to formulate progressive herbal products; she was part of the green movement in the 80's, owned and operated an organic herb farm for sixteen years, and founded an herb school that trained medicinal herbalists in the early 90's. Her farm eventually produced four hundred varieties of herb cultivars and provided a half million plants sold in garden centers throughout the Southeast. Later, Catherine completed a graduate program at Oriental medical school where she received formal training in classical Chinese herbalism, acupuncture, and many other healing modalities.

One of the unique, new opportunities she will be offering at the picturesque Swan Creek Farm will be a series of professional classes offered to acupuncturists to earn professional development credits that are necessary for the maintance of their national and state licensure. Participants can benefit from the great location of the classes at the farm located on Swan Creek Road between the five vineyards of Swan Creek. The wine trail winds its way through French to Italian wines,  andtakes visitors through a local Amish community.

Catherine's interest in the wine country stems from an Enology program at Surry Community College that she attended. "I was intrigued by the emerging wine industry in North Carolina and wanted to locate my new business near the wineries". Little did she know that she would be lucky enough to end up in the middle of the Swan Creek Wineries of the Yadkin Valley where a diverse array of winemaking styles are present.

It was only a few years ago that Catherine found the property where Swan Creek Farm is located. Most people had only seen two old barns and a run down house, but Catherine had a vision of how beautiful the place could be. She and her husband, Bill Browne, restored the farmhouse on the land and renovated one of the barns. It doesn't hurt that bill is a carpenter by trade. "Bill really wanted to burn the barns down when he first saw them, but is now growing to appreciate their unique charm. I haven't been able to convince him that the old silo is charming, but I'm working on it," Catherine says. The recent droughts in the Southeast have slowed down their plans for cultivating medicinal Chinese herbs, but this past Fall, they were able to start planting crops.
